Taiwan Visitor Visa (Family & Friends Visit)
The Taiwan Visitor Visa (Family & Friends Visit) is officially issued by the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), as the “Visitor Visa for Visiting Relatives” category. It allows foreign nationals to travel to Taiwan specifically to visit family members or close friends residing there. Applications from India are submitted at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC), and applicants sponsored by a relative in Taiwan generally need to show proof of the relative’s residence status and the relationship between them. Special provisions also apply to family visits by lineal ascendants (parents/grandparents) of foreign professionals who hold approved residence in Taiwan under the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals. As with all Taiwan visa categories, the decision to approve a Visitor Visa for Visiting Relatives rests solely with the Bureau of Consular Affairs or the relevant TECC office.
Eligibility
- Holds a valid passport with at least 6 months’ remaining validity beyond the intended date of entry into Taiwan
- Travelling to Taiwan specifically to visit a family member or close friend
- Able to demonstrate proof of the relative’s residence in Taiwan (e.g., household registration or Alien Resident Certificate) and the relationship between them
- Able to demonstrate sufficient sponsorship or self-financial means (a minimum monthly amount as specified by TECC)

Government Visa Fees
| Fee Type | Government Fee (for Indian applicants) |
| Single Entry Visitor Visa | ₹4,200 (Express service: ₹6,300) |
| Multiple Entry Visitor Visa | ₹8,400 (Express service: ₹12,600) |
Fees are payable by demand draft in favour of the relevant TECC office; cash, cheque, and online payment are not accepted. Fees for applications made overseas in other countries may differ; BOCA’s standard schedule quotes US$50 for a single entry and US$100 for a multiple entry Visitor Visa made outside Taiwan. Information may vary depending on individual circumstances.
Processing Time
According to guidance published by Taiwan’s overseas missions, standard Visitor Visa processing for Indian applicants generally takes around 5 to 7 working days from submission at the TECC. An express service is available for an additional fee, which can reduce processing to around 2 to 3 working days. Processing speed depends on verification of the relative’s status in Taiwan, the proof of relationship submitted, and workload at the relevant TECC office. Applicants are advised to gather relationship and sponsorship documents well in advance, as attested documents can take time to arrange.
