Taiwan Tourist Visa
The Taiwan Tourist Visa is officially issued as a “Visitor Visa for Tourism Purpose” by the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan). It allows foreign nationals to travel to Taiwan for sightseeing, holidays, and leisure purposes for a stay of generally up to 90 days, depending on the duration granted. Applications from India are submitted at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC), since Taiwan and India do not maintain formal diplomatic relations and TECC functions as Taiwan’s representative office. Indian nationals who hold a valid US, Canada, UK, Schengen, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, or South Korea visa or permanent residence may instead qualify for a free Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC), allowing visa-free entry for up to 14 days. As with all Taiwan visa categories, the decision to approve a Tourist Visa application rests solely with the Bureau of Consular Affairs or the relevant Taiwan overseas mission, which is under no obligation to disclose reasons for refusal.
Eligibility
- Holds a valid passport with at least 6 months’ remaining validity beyond the intended date of entry into Taiwan
- Travelling to Taiwan for tourism, sightseeing, or leisure purposes
- Not eligible for, or choosing not to use, the Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC) or eVisa exemption routes
- Able to demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the visit
- Has confirmed accommodation and a return or onward travel itinerary
- Not intending to work or take up residence in Taiwan
Government Visa Fees
| Fee Type | Government Fee (for Indian applicants) |
| Single Entry Visitor Visa | ₹4,200 (Express service: ₹6,300) |
| Multiple Entry Visitor Visa | ₹8,400 (Express service: ₹12,600) |
Fees are payable by demand draft in favour of the relevant TECC office; cash, cheque, and online payment are not accepted. Fees for applications made overseas in other countries may differ; the Bureau of Consular Affairs’ standard schedule quotes US$50 for a single entry and US$100 for a multiple entry Visitor Visa made outside Taiwan. Information may vary depending on individual circumstances.
Processing Time
According to guidance published by Taiwan’s overseas missions, standard Visitor Visa processing for Indian applicants generally takes around 5 to 7 working days from submission at the TECC. An express service is available for an additional fee, which can reduce processing to around 2 to 3 working days. Processing speed depends on the completeness of the application, verification of travel and financial documents, and workload at the relevant TECC office. Applicants are advised to apply well ahead of their intended travel date and to avoid booking non-refundable travel arrangements until the visa decision is confirmed.
