Russia Electronic Visa (eVisa)
The Russia Electronic Visa (eVisa), officially known as the unified e-visa, is a fully online travel authorisation issued by the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. It allows nationals of approximately 64 eligible countries to enter Russia for tourism, private visits, business, or to participate in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, or sporting events, without submitting an invitation letter, hotel booking confirmation, or any other document confirming the purpose of travel. The e-Visa is valid for entry through a specified list of Russian border crossing points approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. If your travel purpose does not fall under tourism, private visit, business, or event participation — for example, study or long-term work — you must apply for a standard (non-electronic) visa instead. As with every Russia Visa category, the final decision on approval rests solely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Eligibility
You may apply for the Russia e-Visa if:
- You are a citizen of one of the approximately 64 countries currently eligible for the unified e-Visa (eligibility is determined by citizenship, not country of residence).
- Your travel purpose is tourism, a private visit, business, or participation in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic, or sporting events.
- Your planned entry point is one of the approved Russian border crossing points.
- You do not already hold a valid Russian visa (in which case the e-Visa is unnecessary — the regular visa remains valid within its own terms).
Citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand are not currently eligible for the e-Visa.
Government Visa Fees
| Category | Fee |
| Adults | Approximately USD 52 |
| Children under 6 (as of the application submission date) | Exempt from the consular fee |
The fee is paid online at the time of application and is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome. Each minor travelling with parents must have their own separate e-Visa application.
Russian Visa Processing Time
The e-Visa application must be submitted no earlier than 40 days and no later than 4 days before the expected date of entry into Russia. If the application is correctly completed and accepted for processing, the e-Visa is typically issued within 4 calendar days from the date of submission, including weekends and holidays. If incorrect data is found, applicants are notified within 2 calendar days and the application is returned for correction.
Required Documents Checklist
No invitation letter, hotel booking confirmation, insurance certificate, or flight booking is required as part of the e-Visa application itself, though travellers should still arrange adequate travel insurance for their trip.
