Romania Business Visa
The Romania Business Visa is a Schengen short-stay visa (Category C) issued by Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) to foreign nationals travelling for business purposes. According to official MAE guidance, this is one of the general purposes covered under the Uniform Visa framework, alongside tourism, visits to relatives and friends, and cultural or sporting activities. Nationals of certain states who are to travel to Romania for business, upon the request of administrative authorities or companies regulated by Romanian law, may benefit from specific facilitations under Romanian visa regulations. Some nationalities are also specifically required to obtain an invitation approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI-MAI) when applying for a business-purpose visa. As with all Romania Visa categories, obtaining a visa does not confer an automatic right of entry, since specific checks are carried out at Border Crossing Points.
Eligibility
Based on official MAE guidance, applicants for a Business Visa must generally:
- Be a foreign national travelling to Romania for business purposes, and a citizen of a country whose nationals require a Schengen visa.
- Hold a biometric passport, issued no more than 10 years prior to application, valid for at least 90 days after the planned date of departure from the Schengen Area.
- Provide evidence of the business purpose of the trip, such as an invitation letter from the Romanian company being visited.
- For applicants from certain countries: obtain an invitation approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI-MAI).
- Hold travel medical insurance valid for the Schengen Area, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.

The visa fee is charged beforehand, in EUR, and is not refunded in case of refusal.
Processing Time
According to MAE guidance, it is highly recommended that visa applications be lodged at least 2 weeks before the estimated date of departure and no more than 6 months in advance. Standard Schengen visa applications, including for business purposes, are generally decided within 15 calendar days, extendable up to 45 calendar days in exceptional circumstances. Applicants whose nationality requires an IGI-MAI approved invitation for business travel should factor in that invitations are processed within 60 days of submission, which occurs before the visa application itself is lodged.
