Peru Transit Visa
The Peru Transit Visa (Visa de Tránsito) is required for foreign nationals transiting through Peruvian territory en route to a third country. Effective February 1, 2025, Peru requires a Transit Visa for any foreign national transiting through the country, unless they qualify for an exemption. Indian citizens holding a valid US, Canada, UK, Australia, or Schengen visa (with at least 6 months’ remaining validity) are exempt from this requirement. The Transit Visa allows a single entry and a stay of up to 2 calendar days, extendable to 15 days upon request, with a visa validity of 6 months from the date of issue. Applications are submitted at the Peruvian Consular Office in the applicant’s country of residence — for Indian nationals, this is the Embassy of Peru in New Delhi. As with all Peru visa categories, the decision to grant a Transit Visa rests solely with the competent Consular Office.
Eligibility
- Holds a valid passport with sufficient remaining validity
- Has a confirmed onward flight or travel ticket to a third country
- Holds a valid visa for the final destination, where required
- Not exempt under the US/Canada/UK/Australia/Schengen visa waiver provision
- Not intending to stay in Peru beyond the transit period
- Layover falls within Peruvian territory requiring formal transit clearance
Government Visa Fees
| Fee Type | Government Fee |
| Transit Visa | USD 20 (₹1,650 for Indian applicants) |
Exchange rates fluctuate; the Embassy of Peru calculates the INR-equivalent fee based on the exchange rate on the day of payment. Fees for other nationalities may differ; information may vary depending on nationality and individual circumstances.
Processing Time
According to the Embassy of Peru’s published guidance for Indian applicants, standard processing for a Transit Visa takes approximately 5 to 7 working days from submission. Because transit itineraries are often time-sensitive, applicants are strongly advised to apply as early as possible and to ensure their onward travel documentation is complete before submission. Processing speed can be affected by verification of the onward journey and the destination country’s visa requirements. Applications are only accepted in person at the Embassy of Peru.
