Peru Spouse Visa
The Peru Spouse Visa is the specific case of the “Familiar de Residente” migratory quality under Decreto Legislativo N° 1350 (Ley de Migraciones) that applies to the husband or wife (or civil union partner) of a Peruvian citizen or a foreign resident legally living in Peru. It is granted by the Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones (MIGRACIONES) and allows the foreign spouse to reside in Peru, carry out subordinate or independent paid work, and, in the case of marriage to a Peruvian citizen, count qualifying time toward a future application for Peruvian nationality by marriage. The permanence period is generally 2 years for the spouse of a Peruvian citizen, or 1 year for the spouse of a foreign resident, both renewable while the marriage remains valid. As with all Peru migratory qualities, the decision to grant Spouse status rests solely with the competent authority.
Eligibility
- Applicant is the spouse (or registered civil union partner) of a Peruvian citizen or a legal foreign resident in Peru
- Marriage is documented by an original civil marriage certificate; if married abroad, the marriage must first be registered with RENIEC (with an apostilled certificate, under the Hague Convention where applicable)
- Applicant holds a valid passport or travel document
- Applicant provides an apostilled or legalised police clearance certificate from the country of origin, with official translation if required
- Applicant provides an Interpol international exchange clearance (Ficha de Canje Internacional) valid within the last 6 months
- Applicant is able to complete the process in person, as it does not admit representation by proxy

Exchange rates fluctuate; the INR figure above is indicative only. This fee applies to the domestic application processed through MIGRACIONES; a consular application requested from abroad may involve a different fee, which should be confirmed directly with the relevant Peruvian Consular Office. Information may vary depending on individual circumstances.
Processing Time
According to guidance on Peru’s migratory quality change procedures, an application submitted through the Agencia Virtual de Migraciones is generally resolved within up to 30 business days from a complete submission, though this period is suspended if MIGRACIONES requests additional documentation, such as further proof of the marital relationship. Processing speed depends on verification of the marriage registration, the sponsor’s Peruvian citizenship or residence status, and the completeness of apostilled or legalised supporting documents. Applicants are advised to register a foreign marriage with RENIEC and obtain the Interpol clearance certificate well in advance, as the clearance has a limited validity period of 6 months.
