Serbia Student Visa
A Serbia Student Visa is a long-stay visa (Visa D), issued by Serbian diplomatic-consular missions to foreign nationals planning to study at a higher education institution, undertake a language course, or pursue other long-term educational programmes in Serbia. Visa D permits entry and a stay of between 90 and 180 days on the stated grounds; students who need to remain longer must subsequently obtain a temporary residence permit (privremeni boravak) for education, issued by the Ministry of Interior (MUP), which is generally valid for up to one year at a time and renewable for the duration of the study programme.
Applicants must submit proof of enrolment at a recognised Serbian educational institution, along with evidence supporting their temporary residence application under the Law on Foreigners — including financial means and health insurance, unless a specific exemption applies. Visa D applications should be lodged at least three months before the intended date of entry into Serbia.
Approval of a Serbia Student Visa is determined solely by Serbia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (for the D visa) and the Ministry of Interior (for the subsequent temporary residence permit).

Processing Time

New applicants are often granted shorter initial permits — sometimes around six months — before qualifying for longer durations aligned with their study programme in later applications. Students should apply as early as possible to allow time for both the D visa and the subsequent residence permit process.
