Peru Tourist Visa
The Peru Tourist Visa (Visa de Turismo) allows foreign nationals to enter Peru for tourism, sightseeing, recreational, or similar purposes, including casual visits to family or friends. It is governed by Decreto Legislativo N° 1350 (Ley de Migraciones) and its regulations, and is classified as a temporary migratory quality that does not permit remunerated activities in Peru. Applications are submitted at the Peruvian Consular Office in the applicant’s country of residence — for Indian nationals, this is the Embassy of Peru in New Delhi, as Peru has no other consulate in India that processes visa applications. The tourist visa allows a stay of up to 183 days, accumulable within a 365-day period, though immigration officials at the port of entry may grant a shorter stay. As with all Peru visa categories, a visa is not a right but a sovereign prerogative of the Peruvian State, and the decision to grant or refuse it rests solely with the competent Consular Office or the Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones.

- Holds a valid passport, issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay in Peru
- Travelling to Peru for tourism, recreation, sightseeing, or a casual family/friends visit
- Not from a country exempt from the Peru visa requirement (including holders of certain valid US, Canada, UK, Australia, or Schengen visas, who may be visa-exempt for tourism)
- Able to demonstrate sufficient funds to cover the visit
- Has a return or onward travel itinerary and confirmed accommodation
- Not intending to engage in any remunerated activity in Peru

Exchange rates fluctuate; the Embassy of Peru calculates the INR-equivalent fee based on the exchange rate on the day of payment. School, undergraduate, and postgraduate students travelling for study or educational training, researchers, and certain young non-profit representatives may qualify for a fee exemption. Fees for other nationalities may differ; information may vary depending on nationality and individual circumstances.
Processing Time
According to the Embassy of Peru’s published guidance for Indian applicants, standard processing for a Tourist Visa takes approximately 7 to 10 working days from submission. This period can extend to around 15 calendar days during peak travel seasons or when additional verification is required, and in rare cases requiring extensive checks, processing may take up to 20 calendar days. Applications are only accepted in person at the Embassy of Peru, and processing begins from the day the application is received, not the day it is submitted online. Applicants are advised to apply 2 to 4 weeks before their intended travel date, and up to 6 months in advance at the earliest.
