New Zealand Business Visitor Visa
The New Zealand Business Visitor Visa allows professionals to travel to New Zealand for short-term business purposes such as attending meetings, negotiating contracts, exploring business opportunities, or participating in conferences. It does not permit paid employment in New Zealand. Applicants must have enough money to support themselves during their stay, or the financial backing of their employer. If your passport is from a visa waiver country, you may instead be able to travel using a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) rather than applying for this visa. If your business activity requires you to work in New Zealand for more than 3 months, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) recommends applying for a Specific Purpose or Event Work Visa instead. Final approval rests entirely with INZ.
Eligibility
- Have a genuine business reason for visiting New Zealand that fits within the visa’s permitted activities
- Show enough money to live on during the visit, or have employer or government financial support, or an acceptable sponsor
- Hold at least NZD $1,000 per month in available funds, or NZD $400 per month if accommodation is prepaid
- Meet standard health and character requirements
- Intend to leave New Zealand at the end of the authorised business visit
- Provide a letter from their employer confirming the purpose of travel and financial support, where applicable

New Zealand Visa Processing Time
Processing times for the Business Visitor Visa depend on your nationality, application completeness, and current volumes at Immigration New Zealand. Once submitted, your application is assessed for genuine business intent, financial capacity, and character requirements. If INZ needs further evidence, such as a more detailed letter of invitation or financial documents, you will be contacted directly, which can extend the timeline. After approval, most visas are issued electronically as an eVisa. Applicants are advised to check INZ’s official processing time tool for current estimates before booking non-refundable travel, and to apply well ahead of their intended departure date.
Required Documents Checklist
