Cyprus Transit Visa
The Cyprus Transit Visa is required for certain foreign nationals passing through the Republic of Cyprus en route to a third country. There are two main scenarios: an Airport Transit Visa (Category A), required only for nationals of specific listed countries who need to pass through the international transit area of a Cyprus airport without formally entering Cyprus territory, and a short-stay visa used for territorial transit, for travellers who need to briefly enter Cyprus itself while journeying onward. Flight crew members who are nationals of a Contracting Party to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation are generally exempt from the Airport Transit Visa requirement. As with all Cyprus visa categories, approval of a Transit Visa application is determined solely by the competent Cyprus Diplomatic Mission or Visa Centre.
Eligibility

- Nationality appears on the list of countries requiring an Airport Transit Visa (for Category A) or requires a visa for territorial transit (for Category C transit)
- Not exempt under applicable transit visa waiver provisions

Processing Time
Transit Visa applications generally follow the standard short-stay visa processing timelines that Cyprus applies in harmonisation with the Visa Code. Standard processing is typically completed within 15 calendar days of a complete application, though this can extend up to 30 days, and in individual cases requiring further scrutiny, up to 45 days. Because transit itineraries are often time-sensitive, applicants are strongly advised to apply as early as possible and to ensure their onward travel documentation is complete before submission. Processing speed can be affected by verification of the onward journey and the destination country’s visa requirements. The passport is returned to the applicant once the Mission or Visa Centre has reached a final decision.
