Cyprus Student Visa
The Cyprus Student Visa allows non-EU nationals to enter and reside in Cyprus for the purpose of full-time studies at a recognised educational institution. The process is administered by Cyprus Diplomatic Missions for the initial entry visa and by the Civil Registry and Migration Department for the subsequent temporary residence permit, in line with the transposed European Directive (EU) 2016/801 governing entry and residence of third-country nationals for studies. Students intending to stay for a short course of up to 90 days may only require a short-stay Category C visa, while those enrolling in longer academic programmes must obtain an entry permit and, after arrival, register for a temporary residence permit within seven days. As with all Cyprus visa categories, approval of a Student Visa or the subsequent residence permit is determined solely by the competent Cyprus authorities.

Processing Time
According to the general processing timelines published for Cyprus residence permit categories, Student Visa and residence permit applications are typically examined within approximately three months of a complete submission. Processing speed depends on verification of the institution’s accreditation, confirmation of admission, and review of financial and accommodation documentation. Students must register with the Civil Registry and Migration Department and obtain their temporary residence permit within seven days of arrival in Cyprus if their course of study exceeds 90 days. Delays can occur due to incomplete documentation or high application volumes ahead of academic terms, so students are advised to apply well before their intended course start date.
