Lithuania Student Visa
Non-EU/EEA students coming to Lithuania to study generally require a National Visa (D), issued for a period of at least 91 days, followed by a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) if the course of study exceeds the visa’s validity. The National Visa and TRP are processed by the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania via the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS). Applicants must generally hold a university mediation letter or admission confirmation from a recognised Lithuanian educational institution. Students on short exchange programmes of 90 days or less may only require a Schengen short-stay Category C visa instead. As with all Lithuania visa and residence categories, the decision to approve a Student Visa or TRP application is determined solely by the competent Lithuanian Diplomatic Mission or the Migration Department.

Lithuania Tourist Visa Processing Time
According to the Migration Department, a decision on a National Visa (D) application is generally made within 15 calendar days of the request, extendable by up to 45 calendar days in individual cases. For students requiring a Temporary Residence Permit, the Migration Department generally takes up to 2 months to reach a first-time decision under the standard procedure. Applications for a temporary residence permit must generally be submitted at least 2 months in advance of the intended start of studies. Processing speed depends on verification of the institution’s mediation letter, financial proof, and accommodation documentation. Applicants are advised to apply as early as possible, well ahead of the academic term start date.
