Malaysia Tourist Visa
The Malaysia Tourist Visa covers travel to Malaysia for holidays, sightseeing, and leisure. For Indian nationals, the Malaysian government has extended a visa waiver programme that allows visa-free entry for tourism, business, social, and transit purposes for stays of up to 30 days per visit, currently valid until 31 December 2026. This means most Indian travellers visiting Malaysia for a short holiday do not need to apply for a Tourist Visa, eVisa, or eNTRI at all — but they must still meet certain entry conditions and complete the mandatory Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before travelling. Travellers who do not qualify for the visa waiver, or who need to stay longer than 30 days, will need to apply for the appropriate visa category instead. As with any Malaysia Visa category, the final decision on entry rests solely with the Immigration Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia).
Eligibility
Indian passport holders currently qualify for visa-free tourist entry if:
- Travelling for tourism, business, social, or transit purposes.
- The intended stay does not exceed 30 days per visit.
- The passport is valid for more than 6 months from the date of entry.
- The traveller holds a confirmed return flight ticket and confirmed hotel booking.
- The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) has been submitted online within 3 days before arrival.
Travellers who do not meet these conditions, or whose nationality is not covered by a visa exemption, will generally need to apply for an eVisa before travelling.
Government Visa Fees
| Category | Fee |
| Visa-free entry for eligible Indian nationals (up to 30 days) | Free (MDAC submission required) |
| eVisa (for those who require a visa) | Visa fee according to nationality + RM105 processing fee + convenience fee |
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card is free of charge and mandatory for all foreign nationals entering Malaysia, regardless of visa status. Where an eVisa is required, additional convenience fees apply depending on the payment method (approximately 0.8% for card payments, or 1.7% for e-wallet payments).
Malaysia Visa Processing Time
For eligible Indian nationals travelling under the current visa waiver, no visa processing is required — only the MDAC needs to be submitted, which is instant upon successful submission. For travellers who require an eVisa, standard processing typically takes a short period once the application and payment are submitted online, though this can extend if additional documents or verification are needed. Applicants are advised to complete the MDAC no earlier than 3 days before arrival, and to apply for any required eVisa well ahead of their travel date.
