Can a U.S. Citizen Apply for OCI from India?
Eligible U.S. citizens may apply for an OCI Card from India if they satisfy the applicable OCI eligibility requirements and hold an appropriate Indian visa/immigration status.
Applicants may qualify based on:

Applicants holding certain Indian visa categories cannot apply for a fresh OCI Card directly from India.
Important Visa Requirement
A foreign national staying in India on the following visa categories generally cannot apply for a fresh OCI Card from India:
- Tourist Visa
- e-Tourist Visa
- Missionary Visa
- Mountaineering Visa
Where eligible, certain applicants may explore Tourist Visa conversion to an Entry (X) Visa through the jurisdictional FRRO/FRO before applying.
If visa conversion is not available, the applicant may need to leave India and apply for OCI through the appropriate process in the United States.
