Visitor Visa Overview

In Singapore’s immigration system, “Visitor Visa” is often used broadly to describe both the pre-entry visa and the Visit Pass granted upon arrival, and understanding the difference is essential to planning your trip. A Singapore Visa issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), such as the Social Visit Visa or Business Visa, is pre-entry permission to travel to, and seek entry into, Singapore; it does not by itself grant immigration status. The actual permission to enter and remain in Singapore is the Visit Pass, issued electronically as an e-Pass by an ICA officer at the checkpoint, which states the exact period of stay granted, generally up to 90 days for many nationalities and up to 30 days for visa-required nationals such as Indian citizens. Since 11 March 2022, this e-Pass is sent digitally by email rather than stamped in the passport. Possession of a valid visa alone does not guarantee entry; final discretion rests solely with the ICA officer at the point of entry.

Visitor Visa Fees

Fee TypeGovernment Fee
Visa Processing Fee (Indian applicants, effective 1 January 2026)₹2,100
Authorised Visa Agent Service Charge₹1,000
Total Cost per Application₹3,100
Visit Pass (e-Pass) Issued at CheckpointNo Additional Fee

The Visit Pass itself carries no separate government fee; it is issued free of charge at the point of entry once the pre-entry visa (where required) and other entry conditions are satisfied. Visa fees are non-refundable, regardless of the application outcome. Fees for other nationalities are set in Singapore Dollars and may differ; confirm the current fee at ica.gov.sg.

Visitor Visa Processing Time

Processing time for the pre-entry Singapore Visa typically takes 3 to 5 working days from submission of a complete application through an authorised visa agent. The Visit Pass itself, however, is not “processed” in advance; it is granted electronically by the ICA officer at the checkpoint at the time of arrival, based on the traveller’s documentation, purpose of visit, and immigration history. Extending a Visit Pass beyond the period initially granted requires a separate Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) extension application, submitted while still in Singapore, and approval is not guaranteed.

Visitor Visa Application Process

Confirm whether your nationality requires a pre-entry visa, or whether you can travel visa-free.
If required, complete Form 14A and submit your visa application through an authorised visa agent.
Pay the applicable visa processing fee.
Wait for visa processing, generally 3 to 5 working days, and receive your e-Visa notification.
Submit your SG Arrival Card online before travelling.
On arrival, present your passport and documents to an ICA officer at the checkpoint.
Receive your Visit Pass (e-Pass) notification by email, stating your approved length of stay.
If you need to stay longer, apply for a Short-Term Visit Pass extension before your pass expires.

Important Notes

Visa approval and Visit Pass issuance depend solely on the decision of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
A visa is pre-entry permission only; it does not guarantee entry or a specific length of stay.
The Visit Pass length of stay is not tied to the visa's validity period.
Since March 2022, the Visit Pass is issued digitally via email, with no physical passport stamp.
This visa and pass do not authorise work, study beyond permitted limits, or business activity requiring a work pass.
Fees are non-refundable, regardless of the application outcome.
Extensions require a separate Short-Term Visit Pass application and are not guaranteed.
Information may vary depending on individual circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Singapore visa and a Visit Pass?
A visa is pre-entry permission to travel to Singapore, issued by ICA before your trip. A Visit Pass is the actual immigration status granted by an ICA officer at the checkpoint, stating how long you may stay, which is not tied to your visa's validity.
How much does a Singapore Visitor Visa cost for Indian nationals?
As of 1 January 2026, the visa processing fee is ₹2,100 per application, plus a ₹1,000 authorised agent service charge, totalling ₹3,100. The Visit Pass itself carries no separate fee.
How long can I stay in Singapore on a Visitor Visa?
The length of stay is determined by the ICA officer at the checkpoint and is typically up to 30 days for visa-required nationals like Indians, though this can vary based on individual circumstances.
Can I extend my Visit Pass if I want to stay longer?
Yes, you can apply for a Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) extension while in Singapore, though approval is not guaranteed and depends on your circumstances.
Is the Singapore Visitor Visa fee refundable if refused?
No. The visa processing fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether the application is approved, refused, or withdrawn.
